Protecting Luffy from the Government: How Garp Outsmarted the System

Good day, One Piece fans, and welcome to another wonderful theory of Garp and Luffy.

This theory suggests that Garp did not entrust Luffy to the Mountain Bandits for them to take care of him, but instead to hide him with Ace in order to keep him away from the Government. Garp was aware that if the Government knew that only one child had eaten the so-called “MYTHICAL FRUIT”, they may have taken drastic action and possibly even executed Luffy. Garp was not mad at Shanks for inspiring Luffy, but rather he was mad at Shanks for giving Luffy the fruit, knowing that it could have dire consequences.

Some fans argue that Shanks didn’t give him the fruit, luffy stole it from the chest while no one was looking and ate it. Plus, given that they have been looking for it for 800 years, the name has changed and only found out that luffy had that powerful fruit was because he awakened it in wano. Garp probably had no knowledge of what the gum gum fruit really was, even as a vice admiral. If he had became an admiral or above, he would have been given that top secret information.

From this theory, it is clear that Garp was an incredibly clever and protective father who was willing to do whatever it took to keep Luffy safe. He trusted that the Mountain Bandits would be able to keep Luffy hidden, and was angry at Shanks for giving Luffy the forbidden fruit. While the Government may not have known that Luffy was the only one to consume the fruit, Garp was still willing to take the risk to protect his son. In the end, Garp’s plan worked and Luffy was able to continue his journey without fear of repercussion.
