According to the script writer of Film Red, Luffy was supposed to travel into the past and meet a boy, the previous user of Gomu Gomu fruit, in his initial plan. Oda advised him to make more characters appear in Red, like Doflamingo and Crocodile.

Some fans correct the author, saying that it was the correct decision. Something like this should be in a manga written directly by Oda, not by anyone else.He said he should be the one writing the series instead of hiring someone else.

One fan later replied to a tweet and said, “Seems like a waste of that kind of story when the author can explore the power, the person, the history and its use in history way better.”
