Afro Samurai: Will there be a volume 3 for the anime or game? Release Date and Every Detail

If you’re a fan of Afro Samurai, you’ve probably been wondering if and when a third volume of the popular anime or video game series will be released. After all, the last volume of the anime series was released in 2009, and the last video game was released in 2011. So, what’s the deal? Is there a volume 3 in the works? In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the latest news and rumors regarding Afro Samurai, as well as release dates and other details that we know so far.

What is Afro Samurai?

Japan has become a land of warriors, warlords and assassins, where the technology of the future exits alongside the brutal traditions of the past. This world is ruled by whoever possesses the legendary No.1 headband.

When the boy Afro Samurai’s father, Rokutaro, is challenged as No.1 and killed by the No.2, a lethal outlaw known as Justice, he swears revenge, starting on a bloody path of retribution that will make him the No.2 warrior and allow him to challenge Justice.

After having defeated the Empty Seven Clan, Afro is forced to face a new threat: a deadly warrior who wears a teddy mask called Jinno. Will his bloodthirsty campaign of vengeance be thwarted, or will he finally face Justice and claim the number one headband?

The Story So Far, And why It has only 5 Episode?

There’s actually a lot in the five episode of Afro Samurai. Throughout Afro’s journey, we’re treated to memories that provide context for just why he’s embarking on this quest for revenge. We see the difficult and brutal life Afro has led to this point, culminating in the death of his entire surrogate family. Because of the trauma of killing his master and father figure for the sake of his vengeance, we also see the creation of Ninja Ninja as a means of coping with all the death and violence inherent in the life of character number two. It’s his destiny to avenge his father and become number one. But the journey there is a tragic one, and Afro is a changed man by its end.

So yeah, quality over quantity. The animation is on point and holds up well. The story is a classic samurai tale with a unique cyberpunk flavor. And the voice casting is incredible. Afro does more with five episodes than some anime do with hundreds. You’re entitled to your opinion, of course, but anyone here will be more than capable of making an opposing point.

And as for Samurai Jack, it’s a great show, and Gendy Tartakovski (sp?) created a marvelous world. But it’s very much an apples-and-oranges scenario. Afro Samurai does things Samurai Jack simply can’t in terms of its content. By no means am I dissing it; it’s just not the same.
If you’re looking for a similar anime that’s perhaps longer, I might recommend Samurai Champloo or Samurai 7.

Will There Be a Volume 3?

Afro Samurai

The answer is yes! Fans of the manga and anime series will be pleased to know that there is indeed a Volume 3 in the works, which will be released in July 2023. However, this will be a brand new version of the series with a “director cut” twist. This will include a full-length anime film, accompanied by a comic book series set in the same universe as the original.

The director cut version of Afro Samurai Volume 3 is being overseen by Jamie Brazier, creator of the original series, who is aiming to make this new release a “definitive experience” for fans. The story is expected to focus on Afro’s final confrontation with his lifelong rival, Justice, and the secrets they have kept throughout their battles. The release date of July 2023 has been confirmed, but no further details have been released. We can expect further news on the project in the near future.

When Can We Expect It?

There is no official release date for the Afro Samurai volume 3 anime or game at the moment. However, on or before July 2023, there will be an announcement for volume 3.

At the forefront of this vibe is Afro Samurai’s combat, which cribs from most games of its type. You can issue weak and strong attacks, kick your enemies around, and string these three basic moves into a variety of combos.
