🎬 Netflix Announces Powerful New Documentary: “Storms: The Van Morrison Story”
A raw, revealing look into the soul of the Celtic troubadour
June 2025 – Netflix HQ — Netflix has officially greenlit a new original music documentary titled “Storms: The Van Morrison Story,” chronicling the mysterious, complex, and often stormy life of one of music’s most enigmatic legends—Van Morrison.
Set for release in September 2025, the documentary promises to peel back the layers of the man behind the myth, exploring the voice that gave the world classics like Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance, and Into the Mystic.
A Life of Thunder, Melody, and Isolation
Drawing its name from the emotional turbulence that has shaped his journey, “Storms” reveals Van Morrison as never seen before: a genius both reclusive and rebellious, spiritual yet fiercely independent. The image of Morrison—clad in a dark pinstriped suit, fedora, and sunglasses, gripping a vintage gold microphone—sets the tone for a story laced with mystery, grit, and poetry.
“Van lives in his own storm. But it’s that storm that gave us some of the most beautiful music of our time,” says Bono in the documentary’s opening voiceover.
From Belfast Streets to Global Reverence
The film traces Van Morrison’s roots in working-class Belfast during The Troubles, where the young singer found refuge in American blues and jazz records. Using a blend of haunting visuals, live performance footage, personal letters, and rare interviews, Storms follows his rise through the 1960s British music explosion with the band Them, and his transformation into a genre-bending solo artist.
The documentary also confronts Morrison’s controversial moments, his battles with fame, and his uneasy relationship with the media.
“I never wanted to be understood,” Morrison is quoted. “I just wanted to be left alone with the music.”
Musicians Speak, the Legend Sings
Produced by the team behind “20 Feet from Stardom” and directed by Oscar-nominee Liz Garbus, Storms features commentary from artists like Eric Clapton, Van’s longtime collaborator Georgie Fame, and contemporary voices like Hozier and Florence Welch.
There are also intimate reflections from Morrison’s bandmates, family, and those who witnessed his explosive stage presence—and his moments of silence.
