Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Sets New Grand Slam Track Record with 12.70 in 100m Hurdles at Philadelphia Event
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has added yet another remarkable achievement to her resume, this time in an event outside her usual specialty. At the 2025 Philadelphia Grand Slam Track meet, McLaughlin-Levrone stunned fans by running a blazing 12.70 seconds in the women’s 100-meter hurdles — a performance that not only turned heads but also set a new Grand Slam Track series record for a first-time participant in the event.
Held at historic Franklin Field, the meet featured some of the world’s top hurdlers, but all eyes were on McLaughlin-Levrone, known primarily for her dominance in the 400m hurdles. Despite being relatively new to the 100m hurdles on the professional stage, she held her own against seasoned specialists.
Though she finished fifth in a tightly contested final, her time of 12.70 seconds marked a career best and set a new benchmark for any athlete debuting in the 100m hurdles during the Grand Slam Track series. The previous record for a first-timer was 12.73, making her performance even more historic.
Her race was won by Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent, who crossed the line in 12.44 seconds. American hurdlers Tia Jones (12.60), Megan Tapper (12.66), and Tonea Marshall (12.68) rounded out the top four — all finishing just fractions of a second ahead of McLaughlin-Levrone.
After the race, McLaughlin-Levrone expressed pride in her effort and excitement about pushing her limits. “This was about testing myself, and I couldn’t be happier with the result,” she said. “To set a new record at a Grand Slam event in a different event means a lot to me.”
