“I Need Somebody I Can Count On”: Paul Pierce Urges Nuggets to Trade Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. for Real Help
NBA legend Paul Pierce has never been one to shy away from controversial takes and his latest suggestion could send shockwaves through Denver. Speaking candidly about the Denver Nuggets’ recent playoff disappointment, Pierce believes the time has come for the team to make bold moves: trade Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr.
“I need somebody that I could count on,” Pierce said during a recent segment, pointing to the inconsistency that plagued Denver’s supporting cast in the postseason. “Jokic is that dude but he can’t do it all himself. You need someone next to him who shows up every night, not just here and there.”
The Nuggets, who were bounced from the 2025 NBA Playoffs in shocking fashion, faced harsh scrutiny for their lack of depth and inconsistent performances from their second and third options. Jamal Murray, who has historically stepped up in playoff moments, struggled to find rhythm this time around. Pierce’s argument is simple: Jokic is in his prime, and the Nuggets can’t afford to waste it.
“If I’m Denver, I’m calling teams right now. Murray and MPJ got value but if I can get a legit All-Star or two-way player to run with Jokic? I’m pulling that trigger,” Pierce emphasized.
